Sometimes, Kindness Is Just a Mistake — But the Smile Was Real

It was just another bike ride.

When I reached my destination, the fare showed ₹56. Without thinking much, I rounded it off and decided to pay ₹60.

After making the payment, the driver looked at his phone, smiled warmly, and said,

"Thank you, bhaiya. Aaj wife ke liye momos le jaunga. Abhi-abhi shaadi hui hai."

For a second, I was confused.

I remember thinking, "How is he going to buy momos with just ₹4? Is he joking... or is he making fun of such a small tip?"

I simply smiled back and replied, "Theek hai, bhaiya."

The conversation ended there, and I completely forgot about it.

The next day, while checking my transaction history, something caught my eye.

I hadn't paid ₹60. I had accidentally paid ₹160.

For a moment, everything clicked.

His smile. His excitement. His heartfelt thank you. He wasn't reacting to a ₹4 tip.

He was reacting to what he believed was an unexpected act of generosity. I couldn't help but smile myself.

It was a simple mistake on my part, but it unintentionally became a happy moment for someone else.

Sometimes we spend so much time calculating every rupee that we forget how differently the same amount can feel to another person.

I never met that driver again. But I hope he really did take those momos home. And I hope they tasted even better because they came with a smile.
